Being called to service...

I must say I am incredibly impressed with something I just saw on my way to the school today. I was on the bus and saw someone from our school eating lunch with someone I presume to be homeless who is out on the street asking for money everyday. I was just so touched by the compassion and courage I saw in that. This fellow student didn't just hand him some money or buy him lunch, but actually spent time with him.
A reminder for the rest of us though, that we Christians have some serious competition when it comes to humanitarian acts. I work with dozens of people, most of whom are not Christians, and who kick my butt at caring for those in need. And I can remember friends in high school who were extremely active for things like Amnesty Intl. and even in the 30 hour Famine, because they care so much about people.
Sometimes I'm just slapped upside the face by how little I actually do for people I don't know who need help.
